My First Week Back

The First Week as a Sophmore

 

Today marks the end of my very first week back at school. Unfortunately I'm not having much luck finding a group that will let me present my poster to them, but I don't plan on giving up anytime soon.

I'm taking on a new trigonometry class my school has created known as Advanced Trigonometry with Geometry, and thus far, it seems to be no different than the original one I took a couple semesters back. This as well as my Business Math class (One eith a strong enphasis on calculus) are the only two heavy math based classes I will be taking this year.

What I'm most excited for, however, is going to be the my Engineering Graphics class!! There are two sections to this course and I've chosen the one with a strong emphasis on AutoCAD. As a mechanical Engineering Major, I am well aware that the other section with a heavy emphasis on ProE would have been the avid choice but after taking part in this internship, I've began wo waver more towards the profession of Civil Engineeering and Structural Engineering.

In order to help make my decision I've chosen to take part in this AutoCAD Engineering Graphis Class this semester and the ProE Graphics Class Next semester to aid me in making my choice before it is too late.

Exciting thus far, Here is a glimpse of my first hand drawings.

From 11:00am to 11:30am, I met with my group and Dr. Wright for the first time.

From 10:00am to 11:30am, I studied in the library.

From 5:30pm to 9:00pm, I worked on my final deliverables along with my partner.



23 July 2012, Monday

From 10:00am to 12:00pm,  I studied more on Persea in the Library.

From 12:30pm to 2:30pm, I attended my teams meeting.

From 6:00pm to 10:00pm, I continued to edit and study.



20 June 2012, Friday

From 10:00am to 12:00pm, I worked on my power-point and rehearsed my  presentation.

From 12:00pm to 1:00pm, I attended my teams meeting.

From 5:00pm to 11:00pm, I continued editing my scientific poster along with my partner.



19 July 2012, Thursday

From 9am to 1pm, I evaluated my time and began coming up with a paper.

From 3:00pm to 5:00pm, I worked and contemplated my poster.

From 6:00pm to 9:30pm, I completed it.

From 9:00am to 12:00pm, I studied in the library.

From 12:00pm to 2:00pm I attended my teams meeting.

From 8:00pm to 10:00pm, I worked on my poster.

From 12:00pm to 4:30pm, I drilled my head into the powerpoint I failed on earlier.


16 July 2012, Monday

From 11:00am to 11:30am, I rehearsed my presentation continuously.

From 12:00pm to 1:00pm, I attended my teams meeting and crushed myself.

From 12:00pm to 2:00pm, I simulated as well as started graphs of the results of what I'd already received.


12 July 2012, Thrursday

From 10:00am to 12:30pm, I struggled to correct an error while simulating simultaneously.

From 9:00pm to 12:30am, after correcting this problem, I continued my simulating and received viable results.

From 12:00pm to 2:00pm, I attended my groups meeting.

From 1:30pm to 3:30pm, I attended a postponed group meeting.

From 7:00pm to 8:00pm, Continued to work on my simulation.

From 9:00am to 10:30am I worked on my final simulation.

From 6:30pm to 9:30pm I started and completed my final simulations and assigned graphs.

From 9:00am to 2:30pm I, and my fellow REU interns, participated in a very informative workshop.

From 8:00pm to 12:00am I continued to program and learn MatLab with a bit of help.

From 8:00pm to 9:30, I worked on a copy of the kademlia program myself.

From 12:00pm to 2:00pm, I attended my teams meeting, learning even more about P2P systems.

From 2:00pm to 2:55pm, I continued to study and run my Persea program until reading group time.

From 3:15pm to 5:20pm, I completed my programming and re-wrote my notes on P2P systems.

From 10:00am to 12:00pm, I researched and practiced with Java

From 6:30pm to 8:30pm, I worked on my assignment solo.

From 8:35pm to 10:05pm, I worked on this same assignment with my partner.



25 June 2012, Monday

From 12:00 to 2:00 I attended my group's scrum and did some work of my own as well

From 8:15 to 10:30 I worked on my homework assignment.



22 June 2012, Friday

From 1:00 to 1:25 I practiced my computer science skills using java.

From 1:30 to 3:00 I attended a meeting with my TAs and partner to discuss future business and learn more.

From 3:10 to 5:10 I conducted research on several topics of interest.



21 June 2012, Thursday

From 1:30pm to 3:10pm, I studied java and read several books on programming in the Engineering Library.

From 3:30pm to 5:30pm, I attendeda computer programming class with a heavy emphasis on the java program.

From 6:00pm to 7:00pm I continued to drill my head into learning java and programming.



20 June 2012, Wednesday

From 11:30am to 2:00pm I met with my team for the first time.

From 2:15pm to 3:55pm I focused on learning as much as possible under their supervision.

From 4:10 to 5:30 I, and my partner, diligently worked on our assignment with little success.

From 8:00pm to 10:30pm, we continued to work on the project at hand.

19 June 2012, Tuesday


From 9:00am to 2:30pm I attended the Engineering Ethics Workshop

Waited from 7:30am to 8:30am because I wanted to be early.
I was too early.

Had orientation from 9:30am to 2:30pm.

Filled out survey at 2:30pm. Finished at 3:15pm.

Everything is Going to Be Fine

Final edits were made to all I have done thus far as it is our second to last day.

Tommorow, I will be seeing what all my peers have been working on as well as presenting my own work.

I'd be lying if I didn't say i was not nervous. As i Continually practice I just have to keep telling myself...

Everything is going to be fine.

From 7:00pm to 1:00am, I continuously reviewed my presentation.

Day 38

All Is In Place

We printed our poster out today. Initially, we were a bit discouraged as there was a mistake we made; a mistake that would cost us the visibility of the entire background section. After taking this poster to out TAs and Dr. Wright, whom we met for the first time today, they gave us some very good critisism besides the obvious flaw we hadn't forseen. Apparently people dont feel obligated to read a background ground when all it contains is a list of terms. Because of this, it is usually bright to split these terms up and compose two different backgrounds. Mr Wright seemed to be an incredibly knowledgable man with an very keen sense of humor. Far from what I originally expected him to be. Every single grad student seemed to have a plethora of questions for him after his return. These grad students that I always went to for aid was their mentor. I found this amazing.
After today, our poster was done, our powerpoint was finished, and our graphs were completed.
All is in place.

Day 37

Slowly Coming Together

Today was another day for edits and correcting small details within our deliverables. Earlier, in the morning, i was editing the slides my leading Grad student, Mahdi, instructed me to. Later that day, I and Rebecca continued to work on our powerpoint in poster. Nothing special. However, there is one thing i can proudly say on this day.
The pieces are...Slowly coming together.

From 5:30pm to 9:00pm, I worked on my final deliverables along with my partner.

Day 36

The Final Week

Today was not an unusual day at all. Everything went as well, or as bad, as I anticipated it to, as there were no surprises, no disappointing, and not a thing to be excited about--things were mediocre.

I attended today's meeting, as expected. I gave my presentation to Mahdi, Charles, and Rebecca as expected. The presentation wasn't perfect, but not awful, as expected were changes to be made as expected. I made these changes, as expected. And later, I and Rebecca, worked together as we drilled our heads into the final presentation and poster as expected. We made progress, as expected. But did not complete it today, as expected. 

To be completely honest, there isn't much else for us to do, rather than seize a better grasp of the concept and complete a few more minuscule edits as we strive to reach perfection. Things do not seem to be as hectic, but in no way are things slow. This is the beginning of the end of our internship.

Alas, we have become acquainted with...The final week.
